You will also need copies of birth certificates, ID’s, proof of address, social security cards, etc. for each member of your household. A detailed list can be found on the Housing Connect website. We recommend you begin gathering everything now, as it can take some time if you need to gather or obtain certain documents or ID. You want to be ready if you are contacted for an eligibility appointment.
Household earnings most commonly include salary, hourly wages, tips, Social Security, child support, alimony, income from self-employment, public assistance and other types of income, for all household members. A full list can be found on the Housing Connect website.
While many people associate “affordable” apartments with low-income, this project has both low-income, as well as moderate/middle income apartments. Moderate income units are offered in a special limited program to help households to obtain an apartment in an area or building they would otherwise not be able to afford.
In its most simple terms, a household is defined as everyone who will be living with you in the apartment. If those living with you are not immediate or extended family members, the applicants must show that they are financially interdependent to qualify as a household. Current leases or utility records that establish a shared address, or documentation, such as bank accounts, that establish shared assets may be used to constitute proof.
Once the lottery closes, it can take 2-10 months to reach your application. However, when your log number and application is reached, it will take 6-8 weeks to process your application. After you have been contacted, provide the requested documents, and HDC approves/confirms your eligibility, you can sign a lease and move in. The apartments are vacant.
You only need to qualify for the apartment once, up-front. Provided you follow the terms of your lease, you may stay in your apartment as long as you wish. Also, your rent increases will be based on what the Rent Guidelines Board determines each year, not your income.
Yes, you will have access to all building amenities. For parking spaces, additional fees apply.
